how the skeletal system works:
The Skeletal System provides the framework for the human body. It supports us and moves our body (along with muscles) and protects our organs.
Fact 1: Our bones hold us up. If we didn’t have bones we would be almost jelly.
Fact 2: Our bones protect other body systems like the circulatory, respiratory and nervous system.
Fact 3: The spine is a very important part of the skeletal system because if we didn’t have a spine we wouldn’t be able to move.
Fact 4: The brain sends messages down our spine to our bones, this is how we are able to move.
Fact 5: There are 206 bones in the human body. (We have 270 at birth!)
Fact 6: Blood cells are made inside the bones!
Fact 7: There are 6 types of joints in the human body. You can see these on the diagram below. They include: ball and socket, pivot, hinge, saddle, plane and condyloid. This picture is from a web site called Boundless.
